CHARLOTTE ADIGÉRY & BOLIS PUPUL
Cultural appropriation. Misogyny and racism. Vanity on social media. Post-colonialism and political correctness. They’re not exactly subjects you’d expect to be faced with on the dancefloor, but Charlotte Adigéry and Bolis Pupul don’t care about your silly social rules. The duo from Ghent, who broke through in 2019 with their ‘Zandoli EP’ on Soulwax’ label DEEWEE, occupy a unique space as storytellers in the electronic music scene. In Belgium, we’ve been huge fans since Charlotte’s cameo on Soulwax’ ‘Belgica’ soundtrack, but in the meantime, the duo has conquered the world, earning Pitchfork’s ‘Best New Music’ for their debut album ‘Topical Dancer’.
Absolute bangers like ‘Blenda’, ‘Hah’ and ‘Ceci n’est pas un cliché’ keep both your midriff moving and your heart firmly in its right place. Charlotte Adigéry and Bolis Pupul have an intense connection with the zeitgeist, and mold it with playful synths and drum machines into something very danceable – never pedantic, always with a wink.
Following their sold-out show at the AB, Charlotte and Bolis will be coming to Bruges as well. Cactus Club is where it’s at!
